informed choices . . . healthier lives
Independence and Security . Primary PhysicianCare, Inc. provides comprehensive health plan management for self-insured companies, institutions and organizations. We care about our members and their families, and we utilize our fully-integrated delivery system to negotiate with doctors, hospitals, pharmacies, medical groups and other providers. We provide our members with the most advantageous arrangement available. We also manage all billing and payments; handle pre-admission screenings and other care management services using our own medical staff; and provide disease management through Healthgram—our proprietary, patent-pending software system.
Founded in 1977 in Charlotte, North Carolina, Primary PhysicianCare, Inc. is privately owned and independent of any insurance company, medical care provider, or financial institution. This independence allows us to offer our members the security and knowledge that we are working on behalf of their health and wellness- no competing agendas, no conflicts of interest.
Primary PhysicianCare, Inc. strives to be a beacon of innovation in the rapidly-evolving field of health plan management. Our fully-integrated approach, extensive expertise and dedicated staff enable us to operate with optimal accuracy and efficiency.
Integration and Innovation
The difference is clear. Primary PhysicianCare, Inc. can be distinguished from other health plan administrators in four significant areas:
1. Technology. Primary PhysicianCare, Inc. views technology as "the great equalizer;" thus bigger is no longer better. Through innovative use of technology, our company provides more products and services than a major insurance company—at a fraction of the cost. Through Healthgram, our proprietary software and online portal, Primary PhysicianCare, Inc. tracks all aspects of an employee's health history and healthcare costs. This allows us to provide our members with an aggregate picture of the general health of their employee population.
2. Fully-Integrated Service. Rather than outsource services to other organizations, Primary PhysicianCare, Inc. integrates all major aspects of healthcare administration into its base operations. We employ a full staff of medical professionals—including nurses, nurse practitioners, and doctors—who oversee protocols and evidence-based medicine, pharmacology, and standards of care within the workplace.
3. Education and Support. Recognizing that preventive care plays a key role in managing healthcare costs, Primary PhysicianCare, Inc. formed an alliance in 2005 with Wellness Coalition America to develop and manage corporate wellness programs for our clients. Today, as a wholly-owned division of Primary PhysicianCare, Inc., the Coalition provides support, education and wellness program management for more than 200 companies and 100,000 individuals.
4. Commitment. Primary PhysicianCare, Inc. understands that to be successful, a health plan must satisfy the needs of employers who fund the plan, employees who utilize the plan, and providers who deliver the care. Our company maintains the vision of our founder, David R. Tate, by remaining committed to our members and their care providers.
Company History
Foundation and Beyond . Primary PhysicianCare, Inc. is headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, where Chairman and CEO, David R. Tate, founded the company in 1977. He began as a consultant placing healthcare plans with businesses and individuals, quickly becoming one of the largest producers in the Southeast and in the nation.
The direction of the company changed in 1985 when David offered to develop a self-funded delivery system for a client with 800 employees who was dissatisfied with its current plan administrator. The new system allowed Primary PhysicianCare, Inc. to deliver a better product than was possible through traditional insurance companies.
Even insurance companies took note. From 1990 through 1997, Jefferson-Pilot Insurance Company marketed a plan that was designed and managed by Primary PhysicianCare. It outperformed Jefferson Pilot’s own product by 20 percent while growing to become 10 percent of JPs national book of business. This is a credit to Primary PhysicianCare, Inc.'s quality management.
Our history reveals a record of achievement at extraordinary levels. Primary PhysicianCare, Inc. has maintained a focus on personalized service, accurate delivery and balanced growth. These factors combine to achieve an exceptional client retention rate. Now, in addition to loyally serving our members across the Southeast, we are steadily expanding our national presence.
